New Haven

A convenient two hour train ride from Grand Central to New Haven delivers pilgrims of art to a destination worth the trek.  The Yale University Art Gallery and the Yale Center for British Art (located literally across the street from each other), are separate individual institutions, but are collectively a potent pair of culture, art, and history.  I'd also like to note that both museums were designed by former Yale professor and famed architect, Louis Kahn.  Also part of Yale's campus is a sculpture to female alumni one of my favorite designers, Maya Lin.

If you're in need for artistic nourishment, I highly recommend a day trip up to the college town so that you can experience many surprises as I did.
