The Tuileries in Portland

I figured a fun way to commemorate Bastille Day would be to talk about the fascinating exhibition currently at the Portland Art Museum--The Art of the Lourve's Tuileries Gardens.  The exhibition had a great display of paintings, etchings, 3-D models, photos, and statuary.  A true highlight was seeing a series of photos by Eugene Atget, one of my personal favorite photographers.  The exhibition also included a very large tapestry featuring the gardens and several very grand herms, which are carved statues that feature half bodies (or just heads) used as a decorative support.  The exhibition was a thrill to go through, especially since John and I recently decided to travel to France next February.  This exhibition was a great prelude to our trip.  Now I only have to continue to practice my French...
