PICA's TBA Festival

The PICA (Portland Institute of Contemporary Art) recently held it's annual TBA (Time Based Art) Festival. My friend Loren invited me to join her for one very special event--a drag ball called "Critical Mascara: A Post-Realness Drag Ball", hosted by emcee Pepper Pepper. Hosted in a performance space, that might have been an industrial warehouse, the drag ball was held outside with an excited crowd waiting to watch drag queens throw down. Many contestants had very creative costumes and were judged by concept, mannerisms, style, and movement. The runner-up, whose title was stolen by favoritism, was an amazing dancer. But Pepper Pepper stole the show with her lip singing of Miley Cyrus' Wrecking Ball that featured Pepper crowd surfing with large white balloons filled with confetti. It was a very fun night and I had a great time.
