Lan Su Chinese Garden

Tucked away behind secluded white walls and ceramic roof tiles in 'Old Town' Portland is a delightful city landmark called the Lan Su Chinese Garden. For several days the garden is open to the public for free (with a canned donation), so John and I decided to explore this unique urban oasis. The garden offers captivating and contemplative moments around many plants, buildings, and walkways constructed using traditional Chinese techniques. There are many focal points, but the plan of the garden is so well considered that nothing is confusing or disorienting. In fact, the garden is so organized and prepared that its not hard to be coerced into a thoughtful mood. I really was fascinated by the many craved details along all the walls, as well as the swinging pagoda roof-lines. Visiting the various rooms, like a scholar's room and passing the dramatic two-story tea house, was very evocative and breathtaking. I hope to go back sometime to sample some tea and take another glance around such an outstanding garden.
