Yellowstone

In continuing my current entries reflecting on my road-tripping across the country, it was a personal highlight getting to go to Yellowstone National Park, the country's first national park.  Sadly, the park is currently closed because of the government shutdown.  Having worked as a volunteer and as a YCC (Youth Conservation Corps) in middle and high school, I've since had an interest in the U.S. National Park Service. Yellowstone was an invigorating place, mostly to see how many people were eager to see the geysers, the trees, and the wildlife.

John and I spent one day and one night inside the park.  It was wonderful to see such biodiversity.  My favorite part about the volcanic terrain was being able to see all the bacterial pools.  We decided to spend the night in a cabin community close to the Mammoth hot springs.  The cabins were very cozy, and despite all the late summer visitors, the park exuded an overall sense of relaxation and calm.

Having the National Parks closed to the public is truly a travesty that I feel very personally connected to.  It is an additional reminder that public lands are worth protecting, considering, and admiring.
